More than 5,000 supermarket chains and independent retailers showcased spuds for the annual Potato Lover’s Month retail display promotion in February, the most ever in the contest’s 23 years.
Shoppers will be hoofing it over to produce aisles nationwide this February as retailers unveil their latest spud-themed creations for the Idaho Potato Commission’s 23rd annual Potato Lover’s Month Retail Display Contest. But boosting potato sales isn’t the only bonus for retailers who enter the nation’s largest vegetable display contest. The Idaho Potato Commission will give out $150,000 in cash and prizes ($34,000 in cash prizes alone) for the winning displays, and all who participate will receive a free BlueROCK wireless Bluetooth speaker with auxiliary and charging cables included.
Zooming in on the well-known “Grown in Idaho” logo for an eye-catching retail trade campaign, the Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) took home top honors for the sixth straight year in the 2013 Produce Business Marketing Excellence Awards. “What’s Wrong With This Picture?” applied the iconic “Grown in Idaho” logo to a variety of exotic fruits and vegetables, visually reinforcing the powerful link between the name Idaho and the state’s flagship product.
Consumers weren’t the only ones professing their love for Idaho® spuds during the annual Potato Lover’s Month retail celebration in February. Supermarket chains and independent retailers alike submitted 4,049 entries in the Idaho Potato Commission’s (IPC) 2013 retail display contest – the highest total ever in the competition’s 22 years and more than double the average number of entries over the past eight years.
