View All Things Mashed PotatoesHow long would seed potatoes last before planting?
Seed potatoes are like any other potatoes, with only so many months storage ‘shelf-life’ capability. Plant while still firm, whole or cut into chunks, skin-on so at least one potato ‘eye’ is on each piece you wish to plant.
If you’re just starting out planting potatoes, be sure to purchase them from a reputable source, which specializes in marketing seed potatoes for planting. Many such sources can be found online. Keep in mind that potatoes purchased from food distributors or from retailers are not an effective seed stock as these have been treated prior to packing with a sprout inhibitor.
