Feeding 100 Hashbrowns or Home Fried Potatoes

Q:

I'm dicing Yukon Gold potatoes to make hash browns or home fried potatoes. How many pounds of potatoes should I use? There will be other sides. It's a breakfast with: eggs, grits, and oatmeal as options and or additions to each plate.

A:

You will need approximately 6 pounds of potatoes for 25, 1/2 cup servings or 24 pounds for 100 servings. Of course, this varies by the audience... hungry sports teams will want more, multiple sides means you could get by with a little less. Grits... in the South would be a popular substitution, in the West oatmeal might be more popular for example. Nearly everyone loves potatoes.
