Daren Bitter grew up on the family farm in Shelley. From flood irrigating spuds to hand lines and pivots, he has seen a lot of changes in the potato industry. After serving a mission and graduating from Ricks College he teamed up with his brother Kent back on the farm. The operation soon expanded to Terreton and Monteview. Besides growing potatoes we rotate crops of alfalfa, wheat, malt and barley seed. He appreciates all the hard working people in the potato industry and in agriculture in general. He has served on the local school board and currently serves on the Jefferson Clark Groundwater board, water district 110 and United Potato Growers of Idaho board. Daren is married to Kathy and they have 3 sons, 2 daughters and 14 grandchildren. Trying to keep up with the grandchildren in all their activities, church and farming keeps us busy. I enjoy the outdoors and traveling the country, especially when I am with the family.
Established in 1937, the Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) is a state agency that is responsible for promoting and protecting the famous "Grown in Idaho®" seal, a federally registered trademark that assures consumers they are purchasing genuine, top-quality Idaho® potatoes. Idaho's ideal growing conditions, including rich, volcanic soil, climate and irrigation differentiate Idaho® potatoes from potatoes grown in other states.
