Ask Dr. Potato:  What are funeral potatoes?

A: Funeral potatoes is a traditional easy-to-fix potato casserole. The term originated in the Western region of the United States and is commonly served at post-funeral gatherings. The dish typically includes shredded cheese, dairy (such as sour cream or canned cream soup) and of course, potatoes. Be sure to use the best potatoes available - Idaho® potatoes!

Funeral Potatoes can be partially cooked at home and reheated when it’s time to serve. It’s best if you can make the funeral potatoes in a 9x13 baking dish that can be left with the family after the funeral dinner.
